Venice Lido, beaches for sustainable tourism

Following acquisition of the Excelsior, Des Bains and Quattro Fontane bathing establishments in 2009 by the company Est Capital and the award of the ''Blue Flag'' to the Venice Lido beaches, the newly founded SAB - Stabilimenti Attività Balneari has decided to manage its beaches undertaking to develop ''social sustainability'', guaranteeing accessibility and integration for people with disabilities.
Accessible tourism represents cultural growth, an attitude and a way of being, a new philosophy of hospitality. This new concept is embraced fully by SAB - Stabilimenti Attività Balneari, with care and attention to the needs and freedom of each individual.
There are many elements that contribute to defining a beach accessible. The parameters that objectively allows a bathing establishment to be defined as accessible are indicated in the ''Manifesto per l'accessibilità di stabilimenti balneari e spiagge'' (Manifesto for accessibility of bathing establishments and beaches), recently produced by the ''Laboratorio Nazionale Turismo Accessibile'' (National Laboratory for Accessible Tourism) and approved by FISH (Federazione Italiana per il Superamento dell'Handicap – Italian Federation for Overcoming Disabilities), which is taking action to create a National Census of Accessible Bathing Establishments.
Sustainable tourism must be capable of positively combining the protection of natural heritage and valorisation of the territory with the sustainable development of economic activities. This is the goal of SAB - Stabilimenti Attività Balneari, emphasizing not only how tourism plays a crucial role in achieving important social-economic results, but also how it can be a driving force in valorising the identities of both person and territory, while at the same time allowing a reduction in environmental impacts.
